Choice Project #1: Miss Fortune

This is the first project which I was able to choose the topic and media and develop them by myself. So, I chose another topic that is very personal to me (yet again, about superstition) which is about Tarot cards. During the time, I've recently visited a fortuneteller who uses Tarot cards as her medium. The information she had about my personal life scared me and made me feel vulnerable because I actually believed in most of the things she "predicted". Therefore, I made this painting piece about a typical girl who believes in fate and fortunetelling and that her entire life has already been predestined. Each day she would just have to go to according to what she's told to. In the piece, I incorporated all the main subjects of a Tarot deck and painted the background blue to resemble the background color of a Tarot card. I intentionally drew the girl in the picture in 6B pencil to make her seem transparent and that she has no identity. Unfortunately, the frame ruined one aspect of my work which is the edge which I cut to create a curve at each corner of the painting to resemble a card figure. My inspirational artist for the drawing of the girl is Valerie Hammond which her drawings are very light but delicated and detailed. For the other parts of the painting, I just tried to imitate the pictures in a Tarot card which has thick border lines and prominent colors to keep the audience eyes moving around the painting.
